Void of Escapism

This was for one of My Creative Process video for my digital communications course.

At first I just wanted to create a sad clown illustration, but little by little (while traveling). I thought of how sometimes, like clowns, people put on a mask to hide their true feelings. By painting happy faces onto themselves in hopes of hiding their pain. I wanted to capture this surreal concept where the eyes are like voids melting into the makeup and where her head is stuck in the clouds in thought. Her clothes have blue to match the mood, like rain falling. The balloon, floating away as a symbol of escapism.
At the time I had thought of my feelings. How I have escaped reality in my mind to cope with hard times and how I’ve had to confront reality. It has been a rough journey but I am finally getting to a place where I am happy and I don’t need to mask anything. I can’t believe how personal this piece ended up being. I hope y’all enjoy it as much as I enjoyed creating it.
